BLIND FOR LOVE – AVAILABLE NOW:

Recognized as one of Europe’s hottest guitarists, Serbian born Ana Popovic is not only making history, but well on the road to international stardom. Hailing from the war-torn town of Belgrade in the former Yugoslavia, Ana found her calling at an early age when she became enchanted by the sounds of American blues and soul music through her father’s record collection. Years later she relocated to the Netherlands to study music at the Utrecht Academy and soon began building her solid reputation as a dynamic performer with steady touring throughout Europe and by releasing several critically acclaimed CD’s. In 2003, Ana was the first continental European artist recognized by The Blues Foundation in the U.S., honoring her with a Blues Music Award nomination for Best New Artist Debut.

In 2007, Ana Popovic set her sights on the U.S. and signed her first American record deal with the Los Angeles based Delta Groove Music. The subsidiary label Eclecto Groove Records was then formed and created to support Ana’s diverse and eclectic approach to music. Produced by Grammy Award winning producer John Porter and David Z., “Still Making History" signified Ana’s first official entry into the U.S. market and it was a smashing success. The album spent a total of 19 weeks on the Billboard blues chart and hit its peak position at #3!

After tirelessly touring the U.S. and Europe for the past two years Ana now returns with her follow up effort "Blind For Love," produced by renowned producer/engineer Mark Dearnley (AC/DC, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney). Here Ana offers up a little something for everyone including blues, rock, jazz, funk and gospel, and is joined by members of her regular touring band - Ronald Jonker (bass) and Andrew "Blaze" Thomas (drums), plus special guests Tony Braunagel (drums) and Mike Finnigan (Hammond B-3) from the Phantom Blues Band. On “Blind For Love” Ana demonstrates once again that she possesses the vision to forge ahead with her own uniquely distinctive style and continues to evolve as a deeply personal and gifted songwriter.

“From straight-ahead blues-rock to sultry jazz and reggae, Popovic continues the blues tradition with a unique voice and a distinctive guitar sound.” – Vintage Guitar

“Ana Popovic is a fine example of a blues artist who takes new directions while remaining true to the essence of the genre… Though capable of thunderous, Stevie Ray Vaughan-inspired guitar solos, Popovic is equally adept at a quieter, more contemplative style.”
– Blues Revue

"Yugoslavian-born Ana Popovic is not only a superb singer and songwriter, but also a very capable guitarist who can flatpick fluid jazz lines, craft deep-pocket slide grooves, and bend strings with SRV-style emotion.” - Guitar Player

JASON RICCI & NEW BLOOD – LIVE IN HOLLAND

On May 2, 2009 Jason Ricci & New Blood had the fortunate opportunity to travel oversees and perform at the Moulin Blues Festival in Ospel, Holland to the delight of an enthusiastic crowd of appreciative music fans. Their electrifying performance was noted as being the highlight of this year’s entire event and definitely left a memorable impression on all of those who were lucky enough to witness the show. Check out the video footage below for evidence of their devastatingly top flight performance.

VIDEO:

It seems that Jason Ricci & New Blood are now getting props from the celebs as evidenced in this video blog by Les Stroud. Best known as star of the three time Gemini nominated hit TV series Survivorman (OLN Canada, The Science Channel US, Discovery Channel International, City TV (Rogers) Canada), Les is also an exceptional blues harmonica player. The intro to the video features Jason Ricci & New Blood performing “Wake County Stomp” at the Pocket Full of Soul harmonica festival in Houston, Texas along with a comment displaying Les’ approval on Jason’s talent as he remarks “Now that’s some serious harp playing!” Click on the link to view the full video blog - http://lesstroud.ca/videoblog/025-pocket-full-of-soul

PRESS:

Blueswax recently ran a wonderfully thorough and insightful 3-part article with the always enigmatic Jason Ricci. The wildly in-depth interview titled “Blues Ambassador to the Next Generation” was conducted by writer Stacey Jeffress and is a wonderfully compelling feature that reveals many fascinating new facts which fans should thoroughly enjoy. Bon appetite!!!

I PART 1 & 2 I PART 3 I

REVIEWS:

The reviews have been pouring in praising Jason Ricci & New Blood’s latest release “Done With The Devil” as the band’s most fully realized effort to date. Living Blues exclaims “This is glorious, boundary-pushing stuff. Unquestionably rooted in the blues, Ricci’s otherworldly harmonica playing combines the progressive technique of Paul DeLay with the versatility and phrasing of Lee Oskar, shot through with a punk aesthetic and a variety of other influences.” Blues in Britain states “Ricci’s music reminds me in many ways of the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch – canvases that reveal something new, something hidden, something bizarre, but always relevant, every time you look (in Ricci’s case hear) them,” and the SunSentinel/The Beat declares “In an age when the blues is enjoying its most relevant reinvention yet, Ricci could be a huge figure. Tattooed, pink-haired and openly gay, he shatters the stereotype of the bluesman.” Still not convinced? Check out all the latest reviews for yourself - CLICK HERE!

NEW BLOOD DIARIES:

I’m sitting in Vegas now on a two day off break getting ready to leave for Tahoe in just over 24 hours. Later this week I will attend my sixth SPAH (Society for the Preservation and Advancement of Harmonica) convention in Sacramento in which The band and I will have that rare opportunity to remain stationary for a whole week. I will of course will be holding my annual Blow Out again this year featuring Steve Baker, Mark Hummel and my favorite ALL harmonica band: “The Harp Beats” among many other old and new guests.  It is simply wondrous for me to be out west again; I love the big open spaces, warm weather and healthy food (I am now super skinny, all muscle, 155 pounds of slimmer, faster, stronger, smarter, half human hermaphroditic mongoose man). Additionally on the skin deep level I am collecting more and more bigger, better and larger tattoos and piercings all over my body (also viewable on youtube).  I’m really looking forward to gigging out here more than once a year in the future.  I would most certainly enjoy living out here (Especially in San Fran) if it could some how be more geographically sound to our touring schedule. It feels wonderful in the West, big and open, relaxing and breathable, any thing can happen here more than anywhere.

So much has happened since I last wrote one of these updates it’s difficult to know where to start writing and I’m not going to go on my usual 30 page tirade as it’s 4:00 am and I have obtained so little sleep in the last five days that I could simultaneously channel the nine fallen arch angels at any minute, while observing my own consciousness with effortless concentration, while mixing my dreams with my waking life in one great alchemical motion and other magick feats of grandeur that don’t and should not include ordinary tasks  of forming  complete verbal sentences at the 7/11 in request of more cigarettes... or other like minded, practical and some what risky ventures such as writing for fans here…I guess a few pages is safe?

BETTY JEAN – THE VIDEO SINGLE:!

Eclecto Groove Records proudly presents the first commercially available video single for purchase by The Soul of John Black. The song “Betty Jean” is taken from The Soul of John Black’s latest album “Black John,” which the Los Angles Times hails as “simmering, groove-heavy modern blues that belongs on a bass-heavy dance floor as much as a rickety porch in the Delta.” The video single is directed by actor Clifton Collins Jr. who recently won a Country Music Award for “Breakthrough Video of the Year” for the song “Chicken Fried” by the Zac Brown Band. In addition to his directing/producing talents Clifton has also appeared in over 70 film and television shows including most recently the landmark blockbuster movie franchise Star Trek. “Betty Jean – the video single” will be sold as a digital release only and will be available soon on iTunes and all other major digital outlets.

REVIEWS:

"As well as being a gifted lyricist he adds molasses vocals and some wicked slide guitar to beautifully textured tracks that stylishly blend their myriad influences. Whether he’s feelings wistful, talking tough or acting downright dirty, Bigham brings soul back on track." - Metro

Momentum continues to build on “Black John,” the critically acclaimed Eclecto Groove Records debut by The Soul of John Black, as the country’s leading newspapers and publications weigh in on the virtues of JB’s music and how he’s defining soul for a whole new generation. The Washington Post observes “from its rolling grooves to his moaning vocals and vamping fretwork, the claim certainly qualifies as truth in advertising.” Paste Magazine attests “Bigham brings it on every track. He's a fine singer, too, throwing in Godfather of Soul grunts and gospel melismas and pleading, sexually-charged asides that are worthy of Al Green,” and USA Today certifies “It’s no wonder the soul is so tasty with that kind of marinade.” Can I get a witness? NEW ALBUM SET FOR SEPTEMBER:

Production has wrapped and it’s now off to the pressing plant for Mike Zito’s next evolutionary step of his ongoing musical odyssey. Zito entered into Piety Street Studios located in New Orleans, Louisiana in early June with a collection of songs inspired by the city’s rich musical heritage. “Pearl River” is produced by David Z and Randy Chortkoff and features an array of special guests including Cyril Neville, who joins Zito for a duet on the album’s stirring title track, plus Anders Osborne, Reese Wynans, Susan Cowsill, Lynwood Slim and Jumpin’ Johnny Sansone. The result is a rollicking slice of Americana served up with heaping slabs of greasy New Orleans funk, gritty blues and good old fashioned rock 'n' roll. “Pearl River” is set for release on September 22, 2009 on Eclecto Groove Records.

RADIO:

Mike Zito was featured on a radio interview with Freddy Brown, host of The Blue Plate Special,” which airs on Mondays from 10:30pm-12am on KTSU 90.9 FM in Houston, Texas. The interview took place on Monday July 27th. www.ktsufm.org

MIKE ZITO’S SIGNATURE GUITAR AMP:

Coinciding with the release of “Pearl River” this coming fall will also be the unveiling of the official Mike Zito Signature Series Guitar Amplifier. The signature amp will be produced by Category 5 Amps, a company and product line that Zito currently endorses, and is set for release this September 2009.

“We are proud to have Mike playing our amps,” remarked Don Ritter, Artist Relations for Category 5 Amps. “Mike is not only a great guitar player, he is a phenomenal singer/songwriter. He brings so much to his show, it is breathtaking. We worked through a few different amps to finally get a combination that let his voice and songs lead, with the guitar filling in the rest of the sonic space. And when it is time for the guitar to shine – it comes at you with hurricane force!”

Category 5 Amplification specializes in creating quality hand wired tube amps with vintage tones and modern features. The company was formed in part to be a vehicle for giving back to the blues community and to assist in hurricane relief, (hence Category 5). EXCERPTS FROM THE ARTICLE:
We are happy to report that the high expectations we projected at the beginning of 2009 have come to fruition.  Eclecto Groove, and all of its artists, are performing beyond our greatest hopes, with some very pleasant surprises coming from some unexpected sources.

Normally, labels have artists experiencing ups and downs and sales and response leveling off.  This is to be expected and a phenomenon not isolated to any particular genre or type of artist.  In Eclecto Groove’s short life, we have experienced bursts of sales activity, as well as lulls.  But this year has proven that it’s never a certainty and we have been pleasantly surprised.  In America, sales have taken off on all our artists, and our efforts in Europe to set up an independent distribution network through Inakustik in Germany is beginning to blossom.  Our office in Germany, once viewed by many as a gamble, has highlighted the fact that we always foresaw the future of the music business throughout Europe.  No longer do we manufacture and produce our product in America and ship to Europe.  Quite the contrary, we actually manufacture product locally in Germany, and that expedites both our shipping and manufacturing efforts on behalf of each our artists.

Breaking News: Eclecto Groove Is Now On Twitter… Follow Us & Your Favorite Artist Here! - CLICK HERE!

For all of you who are not yet familar with Twitter, it is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS) or external applications.

Since its creation in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Twitter has gained notability and popularity worldwide. It is sometimes described as the "SMS of the Internet" since the use of Twitter's application programming interface for sending and receiving short text messages by other applications often eclipses the direct use of Twitter.

Twitter is ranked as one of the 50 most popular websites worldwide by Alexa's web traffic analysis. Although estimates of the number of daily users vary because the company does not release the number of active accounts, a February 2009 Compete.com blog entry ranked Twitter as the third most used social network based on their count of 6 million unique monthly visitors and 55 million monthly visits. In March 2009, a Nielsen.com blog ranked Twitter as the fastest-growing site in the Member Communities category for February 2009. Twitter had a monthly growth of 1,382 percent, Zimbio of 240 percent, followed by Facebook with an increase of 228 percent.
